trying to financially prepare for baby items. Q?

We have just started our quest for a baby. We are having fun with it and not pressuring ourselves, as we know it will happen when it happens. (And if it doesn’t happen, we have already decided we will adopt). Anyway, I’m trying to figure out what we will definitely need versus what we really don’t need. We live in a small space, so we will have a crib, but we may just use our bed as the changing table. the baby will live with us for the first year or so, until we are able to buy a house.

Forget the crib. It is easier to breastfeed at night when you co-sleep anyway.

i love our changing table, but totally not a necessity. I often just change him on the floor or couch.

Our baby bathtub was a big waste of space and money. It was easier to lay him on a towel in the sink.

I would also say forget the stroller. A sling or other soft carrier is way easier for the first year, especially if you live in an apartment.

I never thought I’d need a swing, but I was frantically searching for a used one when my son had colic!-) A portable on would be great.

A car seat is an obvious must. If you are trying to save money, get a Britax that goes from 5-65 pounds. They are expensive at first, but they are high quality and very safe. Since a baby bucket costs around $80.00 and then a toddler seat costs around $100 and then a booster seat costs around $60.00; you will be better off with a $250.00 seat that will fit for years.

We use cloth diapers and wipes, so that was a big money saver. Also breastfeeding saves a TON of money! You’ll be in that house in no time!-)
