What to do about horrendous back pain?

I am only 10 weeks along and already I have horrible back pain that just won’t leave. I have tried warm baths, sleeping with a pillow, an electric chair massager (it’s something that actually sits on a chair or the couch)…and it keeps comming back. I’ll probably go for a professional massage soon, but obviously can’t make that a habit. ($60/hr each time).

Call your doctor ASAP. It’s probably just an early symptom but check just in case. Your doctor might be able to recommend some safe stretching exercises that will eliminate the problem.

Ask if you can take extra strength tylenol when the pain gets very bad. That might be an option.

Be careful taking too many warm baths. If the water is too hot it will raise your body temperature and if it’s not helping it’s probably not worth the risk.

As your doctor if you can use a warm heating pad or those disposable ones from the drug store. I don’t know how hot they get so definately ask first. My MIL uses them for neck pain and she loves them. She says they have been a lifesaver.

When you go for the massage as if there is a massage therapist trained in pregnancy safe massage that is willing to do shorter treatments. If it really helps the first time you might be able to get someone to do a 15 or 30 minute treatment for less money. Or, if it really helps and you want to commit to going every other week or something maybe they will cut you a break on the price.

Whatever you do, run it by the doctor first. Hopefully it’s just back pain but if it’s a symptom of something else you’ll need to know how to safely deal with it.
