My Son wants a hand held portable video unit so he can watch films on the go? Train, bus etc. Does the handheld PSP do this? If so, can you download from your computer or TV?

yes u can. i got once just yesterday and you can put any videos,movies, watever on your psp as long as it has a certain amount of memory. u can easily get the memory very cheap in ebay. but i could recomend this device good for music photos movies and clips!!
